Yeah so in first year I was in a flat of 4 rooms and only 3 of them had been filled and one of the doors was just locked so we were like oh clearly this room is going to be free all year. But then one day we came home and it was unlocked, but no one had moved in or anything.
It was like that for about a week so we were like oh… we’ve got this unlocked room, may as well put the ironing board in there! So it turned into the room where we stored the ironing board, nothing else…
Just an ironing board?
..nothing else was going on in that room. But we had a small kitchen and it was cluttering up the kitchen.
Then one day it was about midnight or so, and a security guard came in, saw the ironing board up in that room and he was like ‘you’re subletting…’
*gasps*
And we just said no we’re not!
Was it literally just an ironing board?
Literally just…
No clothes, no bedding?
No, no, no bedding, nothing like that, just the ironing board.
So he said ‘you’re subletting, we’re moving people into this room later, you can’t. There’s people staying in here!’
So he then got my flatmate and his girlfriend, who didn’t even live there, she was just in the flat at the time, to clean the room. This included her on her knees scrubbing the en-suite toilet floor and he was just in the flat properly screaming and shouting and swearing at us. Mind you, we were all 18, we had just moved to uni and we were all so scared!
He said ‘I’m taking your student numbers! I’m taking your ID numbers!’ and we were like oh my god we’re going to get in so much trouble because these people think we’re subletting. Then some guy moves into the room.
So nothing happened?
Nothing came of it.
I think so, that’s what it kind of seemed like.
Do you think it was just a security guy on a power trip?
But he like barged into your… they don’t have to…
He hammered on my door like that *motions hard knocking*
It was so scary, it was gone midnight, really frightening.
should’ve complained. Although, again, the amount of times you’ve complained to the uni and they’ve…
.. not done shit.
Yeah.
